Abstract

[Also in Division A4] A control system for energizing an electric windscreen wiper motor A either intermittently or continuously comprises a limit switch A1 which opens at the end of the stroke of the wiper, and manual switching means B, D adapted to connect the motor A directly to a power supply for continuous operation or via a time switch C for intermittent operation. When the switches B, D are in positions 0, 1, respectively, current is supplied from a battery terminal H via thermal switch C to the motor A, which on turning closes the limit switch A1 After a prescribed time the thermal switch C opens, the current supply to the motor A continuing until the windscreen wiper reaches the end of its stroke and opens the limit switch A1. The motor then stops and remains at rest until the thermal switch C has cooled sufficiently to close again. The wiper is thus driven intermittently. When the switch B is in position 1 the motor A is energized continuously via the lead d. When both switches B, D are in position O, the motor is connected to the power supply by the switch A1 and turns until the switch A1 opens to disconnect the power supply. The two switches B, D may be replaced by a single 3-position switch, and in a further arrangement a rheostat is incorporated to vary the current through the motor when the latter is operated continuously.
