Abstract

[Also in Division A5] An appliance for supporting a spastic patient in the sitting position includes an anatomically formed seat shell 1 detachably mounted on a stand 3. The patient is propped up, at the rear, by the wall 4 and, at the front, by the lateral spread of his thighs, in closely embracing divergent thigh troughs 5 which extend almost to the knee. The shell 1 is internally padded and fixed to plate 10 which is detachably secured to plate 11. The latter is vertically adjustable on stand 3 by means of pins 14 engaging rows of holes 13. Adjustable foot-rests 8 are provided. The shell 1 may be secured to a car seat (Fig. 6, not shown). In a modification (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown) the back wall 4 is extended upwardly to provide shoulder and head supports. The shell 1 may be mounted for limited rocking motion on the stand 3 (Fig. 7, not shown).
