Abstract
1,084,237. Making silencers. WALKER MANUFACTURING CO. Sept. 10, 1964 [Sept. 12, 1963], No. 37149/64. Heading B3A. [Also in Division Fl] A silencer comprises two sections 11, each having a reduced diameter portion 12 and an enlarged portion, and an enclosed sound attenuator 13, the enlarged portions being deformed to interlock at 24. Tube 13 is perforated and may have a perforated baffle 14. A perforated baffle 15 surrounds tube 13 in space 16 which may be, filled with glass wool. In a method of manufacturing the silencer constant diameter tubes are swaged to reduce the end diameter and enlarged at the opposite ends. The ends of the sound attenuator are engaged in the reduced diameter end portions and the ends of the enlarged portions are engated one within the other and flanged and curled into interlocking engagement.
