Abstract

Polymers consisting of monomeric -CH2-units and containing units of the general formula <FORM:1083645/C3/1> are prepared by copolymerizing anhydrous trioxane with an appropriate comonomer in the presence of an acidic catalyst at from 30 DEG to 120 DEG C. Specified comonomers are benzo-m-dioxane, hexahydrobenzo - m - dioxane and 4,5 - cyclohexane - m - dioxane while the catalyst may be a Lewis acid especially borontrifluoride complexed or not. The reaction may take place in bulk or solution.
