Abstract

1,082,151. Colour television. HAZELTINEAGA LABORATORIUM G.m.b.H. Aug. 28, 1964 [Oct. 5, 1963], No. 35305/64. Heading H4F. To suppress the colour flicker in a television receiver adapted for receiving a colour subcarrier in which the colour sequence is periodically changed, the chrominance or colour difference signal components having frequencies in the vicinity of odd multiples of half the colour sequence changing frequency are suppressed and/or the chrominance signal components having frequencies in the vicinity of even multiples of half the changing frequency are emphasized. A change in colour sequence may be represented as a change in polarity of the chrominance signal component Q o and if a phase error occurs in transmission, the sub-carrier F appears at the receiver in the following form: and by means of synchronous detection in the receiver there is obtained: in which the components # Q 0 sin α and Œ I 0 sin a of I and Q change polarity in synchronism with the colour sequence and cause colour flicker. The Specification states that it can be shown by means of Fourier analysis that the alternating components are grouped about odd multiples of one half of the colour sequence changing frequency, i.e. in the spaces between the frequency groupings of the other components. Since the sequence can only be changed in the synchronizing intervals the changing frequency is related to the line or the field frequency. A high degree of suppression may be obtained by a suppression of one-half the changing frequency and/or the third multiple thereof by means of frequency traps. The even multiples of half the changing frequency may be emphasized by means of filters. Instead of using traps or filters a quarter-wave transmission line tuned to one-half the changing frequency and terminated at one end by its surge impedance and being short-circuited or open-circuited at the other end may be used. The terminating impedance may serve as the cathode or anode load circuit of an amplifying stage.
