Abstract
1,081,727. Analyzing particle size. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A. G. March 29, 1966 [March 31, 1965], No. 13930/66. Heading G1B. A device for analyzing the particle size of fine grain or pulverulent particles in a gaseous carrier medium includes a vortex separator 1 arranged to operate on a helical flow system having its outlet connected to a filter 3 and being provided with an auxiliary gas inlet whereby a gas may be introduced into the separator in a direction tangential to the helical flow and obliquely to the axis of helical flow said inlet consisting of one or more inlet ducts 7-14 which are adjustable as regards number, cross-section or pressure admission. The particles which are above a certain predetermined grain size are projected radially out of the flow by the rotation of the gas sample column into a particle collecting container 16. The purified gas passes through outlet 17 to filter 3 so that the particles which were not discharged in the vortex chamber 5 are collected in a filter bag 18. The gas sample flow entering the vortex chamber can be given an additional spinning effect by a spin imparting nozzle 20.
