Abstract

1,081,702. Pipe coupling. BRITISH ALUMINIUM CO. Ltd. Nov. 30, 1964 [Nov. 29, 1963], No. 47254/63. Heading F2G. A connector member 1 for a pipe coupling has at least one passage opening to the exterior thereof to receive the free end of a pipe and has a plurality of tooth-like projections of a resiliently deformable material angularly disposed about and extending into the path of insertion of the pipe end and at an inclination away from the open end of the connector and includes sealing means between the connector and the pipe. As described, the connector is preferably of aluminium and contains a spring steel part-cylindrical element 5 having the tooth-like projections 6 and fitting in a recess 4 in the connector, sealing of the coupling being provided by a sealing ring 8 seated in a groove 7 which may be internally or externally situated relative to the spring steel element 5. A rib 3 is provided to limit the depth of penetration of the pipe, which, in one embodiment may be replaced by a solid wall to blank-off the pipe end. The connector may have one opening when acting as a stopper, two, as shown in Fig. 1, or more.
