In a plant including two or more free piston gas generators and a dephaser for establishing and maintaining the desired phase relation between them, the stabilizers 25, or 25a, 25b of the gas generators are controlled by a factor which is a function of the load of the gas generators and by a factor which corresponds to the mean value of the characteristic pressures constituting an indication of the quantity of air in the cushions of the gas generators. The stabilizers may be controlled by the pressure existing in their compressed air casings 9 (or in their common compressed air casing). The stabilizers may be controlled by a common member 23. The stabilizers controlled by the common member may include a hollow slide valve connected to this common member and divided into two compartments each of which comprises two separate chambers one of the chambers comprising check valve means 28 opening from the outside toward the inside of the slide valve while the other chamber includes check valve means 29 opening in the opposed direction the slide valve being slidable in a cylinder 26 into the wall of which open conduits connecting this double stabilizer with the two gas generators. The common control member may actuate two slide valves (Fig. 2) belonging to the two stabilizers, the relative position of the two slide valves being adjustable. In a modification two stabilizers may be each provided with its own control member. The control part or parts of the stabilizers may be actuated by an electrical or hydraulic control variable according to the control pressures.
