Abstract
<PICT:1080464/C4-C5/1> A light transducer operating on A.C. comprising layers 16 of photo-conductive and 14 of electro-luminescent material uses as the photo-conductive material a phosphorescent material with an electrical persistence relatively far longer than its optical persistence. The photo-conductive material may be activated by infra-red radiation or activated by ultra-violet and quenched by infra-red radiation to give a negative image. A barium titanate layer 30 may be included between the layers, to shield the layer 14 from the incident radiation, and also to enable a further image to be projected on to, and observed on, this white layer, through the transparent layer 14 and transparent substrate 10, this projected image thus appearing superimposed on the transduced image. The electro-luminescent material may be ZnO + ZnS[Cu] and the photo-conductive materials may be those disclosed in U.S.A. Specification 2,990,473, i.e. zinc or cadmium chalcogenides.
