Abstract

1,080,082. Tape recorders. STAAR SOC. ANON. Feb. 8, 1966 [Nov. 3, 1965], No. 5460/66. Heading G5R. Movement of a cassette in one direction in its main plane causes elements of the drive mechanism to enter the cassette in a direction perpendicular to its main plane. As shown, the drive mechanism is carried on a movable plate 2, which is linked to the main frame 1 either by linkages 27, (28), 29 or by rollers (111, Fig. 14) moving in arcuate slots (113) so that movement of the plate 2 to the left in Fig. 5, caused by the engagement of tubular members 78 with the leading edge of a cassette 71 as it is slid into position, is accompanied by an upward movement of the plate 2 towards the cassette 71 which is thus penetrated by the capstan (12<SP>1</SP>) and the drive spindles (23, 94). A switch 114 is closed by the plate 2 in its operative position, in which it is locked by one of two quadrantshaped releasable latches (31, 32, Figs. 1, 6, 8). The other of the two latches may hold the plate 2 in an intermediate position (Figs. 11, 12) in which the tape is no longer in contact with the head (88) or the pinch roller (83) but the drive spindles remain in operative position for fast forward wind or rewind of the tape.
