1277097 Cassette recorders STAAR SA 12 June 1969 [14 June 1968] 29937/69 Heading G5R Fast wind or rewind in a cassette tape recorder is automatically stopped by operation of a solenoid when a silent passage of predetermined duration is detected. As shown, a cassette 3 is loaded between guides 1<SP>1</SP> to engage tubular members 9, 10 and thereby raise a plate 2 to insert capstan 6<SP>1</SP> and spindles 7, 8 into the cassette as in Specification 1,080,082. A pin 11 on a spring-loaded lever 57 pivoted to the plate at 56 engages with a latch 14 and in so doing slides a rod 32 to rotate a lever 34 out of the path of the right hand tubular member 9, 10 and operate a slide switch 43 to connect the transducing head 5 to circuitry 63, 69. A control member 21 may be rotated to left or right to control rewind or fast wind. The member 21 is associated with a cruciform member (29, Fig. 6, not shown) whose arms engage either of the tubular members to withdraw the cassette clear of the head 5 and capstan/pinch roller drive where it is locked by a roller 38 and lug 36<SP>1</SP> on the lever 34 which is loaded by spring 36. The switch 43 is operated to connect a head 50, mounted so as always to engage the tape, with circuitry 63, 71 to detect the silent passage. When this occurs the solenoid 47 is energized sufficiently to partly rotate the lever 34 and thereby release the tubular member 9, 10 so as to allow the spring 59 to return the cassette to its normal operating position, this movement also rotating the lever 34 to its normal position and restoring the switch. A further set of contacts serve to increase the amplifier gain during fast wind or rewind. The cassette is ejected by pushing in control member 21 to cause pin 22 to engage cam 23 and disengage the latch from the plate 2 which returns to its inoperative position under spring force (not detailed).
