Abstract

1,080,059. Measuring rotary unbalance electrically. W. & T. AVERY Ltd. Oct.23, 1964 [Feb.8, 1964], No.43243/64. Heading G1NA rotary unbalance transducer 2 supplies a signal which is amplified at 3 and multiplied in Hall plate devices 4, 5, with two signals of the same frequency, which are displaced in phase by 90‹, from a reference generator 1 on the rotor shaft, the output of the multipliers 4, 5, being stored at 6, 7, to give two D. C. signals which are amplified at 11, 12, and fed to a second pair of Hall plate devices 8, 9 controlled by two auxiliary signals offset by 90‹ from an auxiliary signal generator 10, (the frequency of which may be selected irrespective of the frequency of rotation of the rotor), the output of these multipliers 8, 9 being vectorially added to indicate at 18 the magnitude of the unbalance. A body 20 under test, is aligned with the measured unbalance by having its angular position measured, in terms of the rotor output signal of a resultant field device 13 the two field windings of which are excited from the auxiliary frequency generator 10, the rotor output being compared in a phase sensitive detector 16 with the unbalance signal 18, obtained from the signals stored at 6, 7. Any angular difference between the position of the body 20 and the measured unbalance produces an output 19 which drives a motor 14 to reposition the body 12. The extent of the drilling subsequently carried out may be controlled by the magnitude of the signal measured at 18.
