Abstract
1,078,642. Waste heat steam generators. FOSTER WHEELER Ltd. April 22, 1964 [May 2, 1963], No. 17400/63. Heading F4A. A steam generator comprises a shell 10 surrounding a tube bank 16 of bayonet tube pairs which provide the heating surface, the outer tubes 24 being connected to tube plate 26 through which the inner tubes 25 pass to connect to tube plate 30 which itself connects via duct 36 with the fluid inlet 32, the duct 36 being situated within space 38 connecting the outer tube outlets 28 with the heating fluid outlet 34. Water from inlet 12 passes down downcomer 22 between shell 10 and baffle 18, to the tube bank 16, the steam formed rising to separators 20 and outlet 14. Waste refinery gases at 1600‹ F. and 270 p.s.i.g. pass from inlet 32 up the bores of tubes 25 then down the annuli between the inner and outer tubes, round the edge of the tube plate 30 and out of outlet 34. By adjustment of the valve 35 in tube 52 part of the gas may by-pass the tube bank 16. To facilitate removal of the inner tubes 25 tube plate 30 comprises two plates with corresponding holes the belled edges of the tubes being clamped between them. A coaxial intermediate tube may surround inner tube 25 to form a heat insulating pocket between the inner and outer tubes.
