Abstract

A device shaped to cushion a specific portion of a human foot, e.g. a fallen arch, corn, hammer toe, &c., comprises a layer of thermoplastic foam material and means to attach the device to the foot, and is characterised in that the foam material has a rate of recovery from compression that is lower than 70% in two hours. As exemplified, the foam material is formed with closed cells and is of polyvinyl chloride material or an isocyanate, polyester, or polyurethane foam rendered non-porous and air-impervious. In various embodiments, the device is attached to the foot by a loop, to a toe by a digit loop, or is provided with a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive protected with a cover sheet. The foam material may comprise two layers heat-sealed together along lines around the periphery of the material and also around an aperture optionally provided in the centre of the device.
