Gelatine coating compositions contain as a coating aid having antistatic properties, an alkyl ether or N-alkyl carbamic ester of sucrose having the formula <FORM:1077317/C3/1> <FORM:1077317/C3/2> where R is an alkyl group of 7 to 16 carbon atoms. Compounds specified are the monodecyl and monododecyl ethers and urethanes of sucrose.
