Abstract

1,077,042. Gas blast switches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 18, 1965 [Feb. 18, 1964], No. 6784/64. Heading H2B. In a double circuit-breaker generally as described in Specification 983,501, the parallel resistors 14, 16 are of different values, resistor 14 being of the order of 20-100 ohms while resistor 16 is of the order of 2000-12,000 ohms. Under severe overload the voltage is unequally divided so that main break 12 clears first inserting the low resistance 14 in series with the other break 13 causing the current to change from reactive to resistive and therefore bringing the current into phase with the voltage so that break 13 clears at the next current zero. Parallel capacitors 18, 19 equalize the voltages after interruption.
