Abstract
1,075,860. Tape applying machine. ADHESIVE TAPES Ltd. May 12, 1965 [May 20, 1964], No. 20798/64. Heading B8F. Apparatus for applying adhesive tape comprises a supply reel 28 from which tape is led to an applicator roll 10 mounted on a plate 2 movable in a straight line from the inoperative position shown to an applying position under the control of a solenoid 6. A knife 33 and a wiping roller 37 are pivotally mounted at 30 and the arrangement is such that as the plate 2 is advanced a pin 15 engaging a slot 34 withdraws the knife from its cutting position to an inoperative position. A knurled non-return roller 17 prevents retraction of the tape the end of which is held on the roll 10 by a finger 12. As articles are fed by a conveyer in the direction D a switch de-energizes the solenoid 6 so that the plate 2 projected and the knife 33 retracted and the article contacts the tape held on the roll 10. As the article advances tape is applied by the roll to and wiped by the roller 37 until a second switch re-energizes the solenoid 6 retracting the plate 2 and causing the knife 33 to cut the tape the application of which is completed by the roller 37.
