Abstract
1,075,089. Dry shavers. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 10, 1964 [Sept. 13, 1963], No. 37061/64. Heading B4B. In a shaving head for a dry shaver comprising a shear plate 1 and a cutter 2 which are together depressible against spring pressure into a terminal position determined by a stop, the spring pressure is provided by springs 9, 10 of unequal strengths. The springs bear against opposite sides of the bottom 14 of a cup 15 engageable with a pivot 16 after a given compression of the spring 9. The cutter 2 is driven from a spindle 13, mounted on a shaft 17, through a coupling 3, the cup 15 being engageable with a collar 19 under the pressure of the spring 10. When the plate 1 is pressed lightly against the user's skin, the plate moves inwardly and the spring 9 is compressed, the spring 10 remaining extended. When the plate is pressed more heavily against the user's skin, the cup 15 comes into contact with the pivot 16 and the spring 9 ceases to be effective. As the pressure of the plate is increased, the coupling 3 slides past the cup 15 and the spring 10 is compressed. The compression of spring 10 can be continued until the lower edge of the plate 1 comes into contact with a fixed stop 21 of the shaver housing.
