Abstract
1,074,894. Radio wave absorbers. ELTRO G.m.b.H. Aug. 26, 1957 [Aug. 31, 1956], No. 26923/57. Heading H4A. A radar camouflage covering, for aircraft landing surfaces or aircraft carrier decks, consists of a number of superimposed, thin layers of synthetic substances secured, by adhesive to the surface. The upper layer is hard and may withstand shock, abrasion, weather and seawater. A phase, changing layer may be incorporated in which titanates, carbonates, silicates, sulphates or phosphates are used as fillers and effects a phase displacement of 180 degrees with respect to the wave reflected from the surface. The layers may be formed of Dellathol, chloropred and materials have the Registered Trade Marks " Igelit," " Desmodur " " Desmophen " and " Buna " containing iron or aluminium powder, ferrites, magnesium carbonate, zinc oxide, sulphur and powdered carbon. They may be pressed into position with a die having an indented surface the depth of which is related to the high frequency wavelength range to be suppressed. If attenuation above a wavelength of 10 cm. is required a conducting layer is added of a thickness calculated from the formula where # = wavelength, #=dielectric constant, Á= permeability. Camouflage in the visible range is effected by dyes mixed in the upper layers.
