Abstract
1,074,756. Piston and piston rod packing. MINNESOTA RUBBER CO. Aug. 27, 1965 [June 24, 1965], No. 36990/65. Addition to 1,069,556. Headings F2B and F2T. In sealing means between relatively movable members according to the parent Specification and comprising a continuous flexible sealing ring 16 housed in a groove in one, 7, of the members and urged into contact with the other member 6 by a back-up ring 17 of resilient material having both its inner and outer peripheral surfaces concave at 24 and 22 to provide projecting corners 28 and 29 and 26 and 27 respectively, the surface 21 of the sealing ring 16 opposed to the back-up ring 17 is convex at its middle portion to mate with the concave portion of the ring 17. The ring 16 is of U-section and in a modification (Fig. 4) has an arcuate-section circumferential groove (35) in its face contacting the other member (6). The ring 17 is of rubber and the ring 16 of polytetrafluoroethylene.
