Abstract
1,071,791. Railway vehicle combined buff and draw gear. STANDARD CAR TRUCK CO. June 17, 1964, No. 25133/64. Heading B7T. A coupler shank 8 at each end of a railway vehicle has a slot 12 through which a key 13 passes, the shank abutting a follower 7 through which extends a key 9. The inner end of the follower 7 abuts a shock-absorber 6 whose other end abuts a plate 5 closing the end of a sliding yoke 4. A guided push-rod 18 carrying a sleeve 21 and abutment plate 20, Fig. 7, is arranged to contact either end of a shockabsorber 17 positioned intermediately of the ends of the vehicle. The yoke 4 is slotted at 16 and the centre sill has slots 10 so that in draft the keys 9 and 13 are brought to the position shown in Figs. 2, 3, and the yoke is pulled outwardly to compress the shock absorber 6. In buff, the butt end of the shank applies pressure to the follower 7 and to the shock-absorber 6. As the yoke moves inwardly under further load, Fig. 5 (not shown), it abuts the stop 24 and moves the push-rod 18 to compress the intermediate shock-absorber and the means 6 at the other end. A removable plate 15 makes it possible to remove the key 13.
