Abstract
1,070,134. Thermionic tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Feb. 12, 1965 [Feb. 19, 1964], No. 6176/65. Heading H1D. In a high-frequency disc-sealed thermionic tube, e.g. a klystron or, as shown, a triode valve, an insulating shield 21 is secured to one electrode terminal 15 and extends within insulating envelope portion 19, which is sealed between electrode terminals 11, 15, so that envelope portion 19 is protected from bombardment by stray electrons. The shield 21 may be of alumina or beryllia ceramic, and is provided with a conductive band 23 of Ni, Ti or C or other material having low secondary electron emission properties. The band 23 may be electrically connected to grid electrode 15 to prevent build-up of positive charge on shield 21.
