A wall 10 has vertical recesses 15, 14 staggered horizontally in opposite surfaces closed by panels 18, 20 and 21. A pier or column 22 is in one recess 14. Front sections 11 alternate with rear sections 12, between which are transverse sections 13. Some of the ducts are partly or fully filled with a thermal and/or sound insulating material, e.g. 19. The wall 10 may be one or more layers of bricks or blocks, or one layer of e.g. concrete, or several layers of e.g. glass fibre, asbestos fibre or other mineral, organic or synthetic matter as a sheet or sheets joined by cementing material with or without heat and/or pressure.
