Abstract

1,067,132. Adjustable seats. G. CAVIONI. March 13, 1964 [March 14, 1963], No. 10665/64. Heading A4J. A seat comprises a base frame 10 on the side of which is secured a bracket 11 in which there is longitudinally movable a shaft 12 passing axially through a locking device 24. A member 13 is pivoted at (15) on the bracket 11 and coupled by an arm 22 to the shaft 12. A plate 16 integral with the back rest 23 is also pivoted at (15) to the base and is locked against rotation relative to member 13 by a clutch dog (18) on member 13 urged by a spring (19) into engagement with an opening (17) in plate 16. A cam 20 operable by an arm 21 can be rotated to overcome the spring 19 and push member 13 from plate 16 so that back rest 23 may be tipped forwardly. The locking device 24, Fig. 3 (not shown) has a bore provided with two opposed circumferentially tapered surfaces against which are axially spring-urged two sets of balls (27) surrounding and contacting shaft 12. Shaft 12 is released to allow angular adjustment of the back rest 23 about pivot (15) by means of a handle (35) attached to a collar (32) which is provided with opposed axially-acting cam faces coacting with pins (33), (34) on sleeves (25), (26).
