Abstract
Metal articles, e.g. steel sheets, prior to coating with plastics materials, are first coated with a primer comprising an emulsion of which. the dispersed phase is a synthetic drying oil produced by polymerization in the presence of an alkali metal catalyst of 25 to 100 parts by weight of an acyclic conjugated diolefine containing 4 to 6 carbon atoms with 0 to 75 parts by weight of an unsaturated cyclic hydrocarbon having at least one ethylenically unsaturated side chain. In the examples a drying oil consisting of 80% butadiene and 20% styrene, or the same oil after oxidation to a 10% bound oxygen content, or mixtures of the two are used. The continuous phases used are water, turpentine or decahydronaphthalene. The emulsifying agent is a condensation product of oleic acid and ethylene oxide.ALSO:Metal articles, e.g. steel sheets, prior to coating with plastics materials such as polyamides e.g. polyundecanamide, are first coated with a primer comprising an emulsion of which the dispersed phase is a synthetic drying oil produced by polymerization in the presence of an alkali metal catalyst of 25 to 100 parts by weight of an acyclic conjugated diolefin containing 4 to 6 carbon atoms with 0 to 75 parts by weight of an unsaturated cyclic hydrocarbon having at least one ethylenically unsaturated side chain.
