Abstract

1,066,037. Finishing yams. W. REINERS. Oct. 8, 1963 [Oct. 12, 1962], No. 39594/63. Heading D1F. In a thread-waxing device wherein the thread moves across, and is pressed by guides against, the end face of a rotated ring of wax, advance of the ring towards the thread occurs in correspondence with the consumption thereof so that, inter alia, the angle of approach of the thread to the face remains constant and, therefore, a uniform coating of wax is applied to the thread. In the apparatus of Figs. 1 and 2, thread F engages a paraffin wax ring 1 which is mounted on a bolt 3 for rotation by a motor 4 and is urged by a spring 5 against rounded surfaces 6a of a pivoted counter-holder 6 urged by a spring 14 against a stop 16. The holder 6 carries guides 10, 11 and 12 which may be adjustable and are off-set in relation to the ring face to press the thread thereagainst. The holder is pivoted against the spring 14 to enable replacement of the ring. In a modification, Fig. 4, thread F is guided eccentrically over the face and the ring is advanced by one arm 17b of a spring-loaded lever 17 rotation of which finally closes adjustable contacts 19 and 22 to operate a signal lamp 21 giving warning of the need to replenish the wax. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 5, a mounting 29 providing thread guides, as at 24, is connected with the counter-holder 23 through a joint 28 and drawn theretowards by a spring 30: the positions of the guides are individually or collectively adjustable, as by a micro-screw 25. The motor 4 and ring 1 are mounted on a lever 26 which is pivoted about a bolt 27 to enable replacement of the ring.
