Abstract
1,065,761. Breaking. ACROW (ENGINEERS) Ltd. Nov. 20, 1963 [Dec. 10, 1962], No. 46554/62. Heading B3E. A tool for breaking off the end of shuttering tie rods or strips comprises a head having an outer convex face to engage the surface of a concrete structure and formed with a slot or hole through which the end of the tie can pass and means to engage and to exert a tensile force on the tie. The tool, comprising a tubular handle 2 formed at one end into a flat sleeve 4 terminating in a centrally slotted convex head 6, is applied over the projecting end 8 of a tie. The tie is in the form of a strip and the projecting end 8 is formed with a slot 28 which is engaged by a wedge 16 carried by the tool. In operation the tool is rocked up and down about the head 6. As this is done the tie stretches and the wedge 16 is forced progressively across the tool by screw means 12 to maintain the tensional force. The combination of rocking and stretching causes the tie to break off at notches 30<SP>1</SP>.
