Abstract
Water-insoluble monoazo dyes of formula <FORM:1065468/C4-C5/1> in which R is a diazo component of the benzene, naphthalene, diphenyl or heterocyclic series, R1 is an alkyl or cyanoalkyl group, A and A1 are alkylene groups of 1-3 carbon atoms, R2 is an alkyl or aryl group and wherein the nucleus K may be further substituted, are prepared by diazotizing an amine of formula RNH2 and coupling with a compound of formula <FORM:1065468/C4-C5/2> in which X is a hydrogen atom or the group -CO-A1-SO2-R2 and in the case when X is hydrogen, esterifying with an acid of Formula HOOC-A1-SO2-R2 or a functional derivative thereof e.g. acid chloride, all symbols being as above. The dyes provide blue-yellow-red shades in synthetic materials especially polyester, polyamides and polyacrylonitrile.
