Abstract
1,063,999. Grinding. OFFICINE MECCANICHE BERTONI & COTTI S.p.A. Sept. 25, 1963 [Oct. 6, 1962], No. 37756/63. Heading B3D. A grinding machine having a grinding wheel 2 comprises a block 11 of material which is less abrasive than the wheel and is supported so as to bear against an area of the working surface of the wheel, and means for moving the block in a direction transverse to the normal movement of the surface. The block 11, which may be of natural or artificial stone or of metal alloy, is of less width than the width of the grinding wheel and is carried by a support 10 connected by a pivot 9 to a piece 7 secured to a shaft (5, Fig. 2), axially reciprocatable by a mechanism driven by a motor (6). The stroke of the block is greater than the difference between the widths of the block and wheel so that the block projects from the wheel at each end of its stroke. The block rests under the action of a spring or its own weight against the wheel and improves the finish on the work operated on by the grinding wheel by removing the asperities left on the wheel following trueing by a diamond and by removing particles that are already partly detached. A projection extends from the shaft (5) and can be engaged by a lever to lift the block from the grinding wheel.
