Abstract

1,062,447. Impregnating and sheathing cables. PIRELLI GENERAL CABLE WORKS Ltd. Sept. 24, 1965 [June 24, 1964], No. 40724/65. Divided out of 1,062,444. Heading H1A. Fig. 2 shows a plug for connecting an oilfilled cable to be impregnated or sheathed with a hauling hawser. The cable is held in recess 25 by grub screws 27 and the hawser in similar manner in recess 24. An axial hole 26 allows for the various steps in the impregnating process and can be closed by a cap 30 or connected as appropriate to oil or vacuum supplies. In an alternative arrangement (Figs. 3a, 3b, not shown) the plug is made in two parts fitting axially one within the other.
