Abstract

Compositions comprise a chlorine-containing polymer derived from a polymerizable vinyl compound and containing one or more chlorine atoms directly bonded to carbon, iron oxide, a polyol and magnesium oxide or hydroxide. The polymer may be polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride or a chlorinated polyolefin. The polyol may be pentaerythritol, dipentaerythritol, glucose, mannitol, D-sorbitol, glycerol, diethylene glycol, 1,1,1 - trihydroxymethyl ethane, diphenylolpropane or hydroquinone. The compositions may also contain plasticizers, e.g. dioctyl phthalate, extenders, e.g. chlorinated paraffin, and calcium stearate; and may be used for making floor tiles. Examples describe compositions comprising polyvinyl chloride, di-isooctyl phthalate, chlorinated paraffin, calcium stearate, iron oxide and magnesium oxide together with (1 and 3) pentaerythritol; (5) dipentaerythritol, mannitol or hydroquinone; (6) glucose, glycerol, diethylene glycol or diphenylol propane; or (7) D-sorbitol or 1,1,1-trimethylolpropane, or magnesium hydroxide together with (4) pentaerythritol; and compositions comprising polyvinyl chloride, dioctyl phthalate, calcium stearate, iron oxide, magnesium oxide; and (2) pentaerythritol.
