Abstract

1,061,383. Operating theatre hatches; air curtains. J. E. FIRMAN. Nov. 21, 1963 [Aug. 24, 1962], No. 32625/62. Heading F4V. A hospital operating theatre hatch is provided with means for circulating filtered air through the hatch from top to bottom. A fan 32 draws air from the bottom of the hatch through hollow side and top walls 28 and discharges it partly through a perforated metal sheet 33 at the top of the hatch and partly through an outlet 42 to a sluice room. Air is withdrawn at the bottom of the hatch through a perforated metal plate 22 covering a recess 18 in a plate 10 housing a removable tray 20. From the plate 22 the air passes through an opening 25 in the recess and a filter 16 before passing to the fan 32. A framework supporting hooks 40 is removably and rotatably mounted in the hatch by spindles 36 and bearings 24 and 34 so that articles hung on the framework at one side of the hatch may be removed at the other side. Doors 44 are provided at the back of the hatch. The air pressure in the theatre is kept slightly above that in the sluice room. In a modification, Figs. 5-8 (not shown) rear doors are provided with magnetic closing devices, the plate 22 is omitted and the recess 18 is formed as a sink with a water inlet and a drain.
