Abstract
1,061,010. Electromagnetic relays. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. March 30, 1965 [May 15, 1964], No. 13470/65. Heading H2B. [Also in Division H1] A shading coil is in the form of a resilient loop which must be flexed to enable it to snap into two parallel grooves formed in the core of a relay. The shading coil 31 is generally rectangular, but one major side 67 (Fig. 4, not shown) is concave, and is made of a zirconium copper alloy, a cadmium copper alloy, or a beryllium copper alloy having the composition 98% copper, 1.9% beryllium, 0.2% nickel. One major leg 69 of the shading coil 31 is inserted in a groove 61 in pole face 55 and the coil is then rotated clockwise until concave leg 67 slides on slope 71 of groove 63. Continued clockwise movement causes the leg 67 to slide over the end of slope 71 and snap under a ledge 75 and resiliently engage the side wall of slot 63. In Fig. 10 (not shown) the leg portion 77 is omitted. Alternative arrangements are shown and described (Figs. 11-16, not shown).
