Abstract

Metal surfaces are made more resistant to wear by treating with a bath of molten salts, the surface being anodic. Molten KCNO with or without KCN is preferred and iron, steel, aluminium, and titanium articles are treated, whereby nitrides of the surface metal are formed in a few minutes at 350 DEG C. applying a C.D. of 10 to 50 A.S.Dm.
