Abstract
1,059,572. Conveyers for mining machines. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Dec. 10, 1963 [Dec. 11, 1962], No. 46699/62. Heading B8A. A cross-conveyer suitable for use on a mining machine as described in Specification 1,040,566, comprises a trough end portion 1b hinged at 7 to a main trough portion 1a. The end portion 1b is connected by a link 13 to an anchorage 14 and when the main portion 1a is caused to slide longitudinally in a cradle 8 towards that roadway side adjacent the end portion 1b the end portion swings upwardly until it assumes a vertical position. The movement of the main portion 1a provides clearance at the side of the roadway remote from the portion 1b of a width approximately equal to length of the portion 1b. The main portion 1a is caused to slide by a double-acting hydraulic ram 16 secured to the cradle 8, a piston-rod 16a being attached to a block 18 secured to the main trough portion 1a. To avoid excessive tension in conveyer chains 2 when the trough portion 1b swings upwardly, this portion is formed in two parts; a relatively fixed portion 30 and a tensioning portion 31 which slides on portion 30. A compression spring 34 is provided on each side of the portion 31 and urges this portion outwardly to tension the chains 2. The arrangement also permits the portion 31 to slide inwardly under the tension of chains when the trough portion pivots upwardly.
