Abstract
1,059,391. Coating with metals; magnetic compositions. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 20, 1964 [March 25, 1963], No. 11883/64. Heading C7FMn-Bi magnetic bodies, made by compressing powder formed by pulverising an alloy mixture of Mn and Bi heated to 1000‹C., are coated with at least one metal layer e. g. Ni, Zn, Cu applied from an acid free medium below 445‹C. A 10 micron thick Ni layer may be deposited either by immersion in an alkaline aqueous solution containing Ni Cl 2 NH 4 Cl, Na hypophosphate and Na citrate or by thermal decomposition of Ni carbonyl, a further 40 micron thick Ni layer being added electrolytically. A Cu layer e. g. 15 microns thick may be electro-deposited followed by either tin plating by immersion in a tin-lead alloy melt or by electrodeposition of a 50 micron thick Ni layer or a 40 micron thick Cu layer. A 10 micron thick Zn layer may be applied by rotating the magnet body with Zn powder, glass balls and petrol followed by the electrodeposition of a first thin Cu layer and then layers of Ni or Cu.
