Abstract

1,058,836. Folding machines. MASCRINENFABRIK AUGSBURG - NURNBERG A.G. May 5, 1964 [May 17, 1963], No. 18705/64. Heading B6H. Rotary folding apparatus for folding sheets cut from a web 1 issuing from a printing machine, is provided with a photo-electric cell 5 responsive to the passage of a sheet from the folding cylinder 3 to the delivery cylinder 4, a device 6 emitting signals in time with the rotation of the folding cylinder, and a unit 7 for comparing the signals generated by the photoelectric cell 5 and device 6 and adapted to activate a knife 8 to sever the web in the event of said signals not being received simultaneously. The device 6 comprises permanent magnets 9 secured to the rotating folding cylinder and a stationary coil 10, or, a second photo-electric cell. The knife 8, Fig. 2, is carried by pivoted levers 11 and urged towards its inoperative position, against the action of a spring 13, by a latch 14. The latch is withdrawn by a solenoid 15 under the control of the unit 7.
