Abstract

1,058,312. Securing knobs on shafts. CARR. FASTENER CO. Ltd. Dec. 11, 1964 [Feb. 4, 1964], No. 4742/64. Heading F2U. A spring steel clip for securing a knob 6 having a substantially D-shaped recess to a correspondingly cross-sectioned shaft end 9 comprises a longitudinally curved base 1 having at one end a normally extending lip 3 and at the other end a normally extending arm 2 oppositely directed to the lip 3, there being cut and bent respectively from the arm and the base one or more prongs 4 and a prong 5. To assemble, the clip is inserted into the recess, whereupon the prongs 4, 5 frictionally engage and tend to dig into the recess wall adjacent the inner end thereof so as to resist clip withdrawal. The shaft is then inserted into the recess, thereby flattening the curved base 1 which, in tending to revert to its original curved shape, resiliently and retainingly engages the flat face of the shaft. The lip 3 engages the outer end face of the knob adjacent the recess.
