Abstract
1,057,592. Pipe couplings; metallic pipes. W. MURRAY. April 28, 1964, No. 17570/64. Headings F2G and F2P. A pipe coupling comprises a hose formed from channelled strip wound to form an internal helical groove, a deformable sleeve 4, a rigid nipple 11 having an external helical rib, a screw coupling member 14 and a screw connector 18. The member 14 is slid along the hose, the sleeve, preferably having an internally flanged end is slid into the hose, the nipple preferably having an externally flanged end is screwed into the hose and the connector screwed on to the coupling member. The sleeve may be tapered at both ends 8, 9 and has a thin feather edge 7. The member 14 has a tapered bore 16 which engages the tapered portion 8 of the sleeve in connection and deforms the thin tapering end of the sleeve inwardly to make a ring engagement with the hose. The hose is described as comprising a strip of metal sectionally formed with inwardly and outwardly directed channels (Fig. 1a, not shown) helically wound with the channel interfitting with a strip of asbestos 2 wound with the strip and coated with plastics material, e.g. P.V.C.
