Abstract
1,057,139. Continuous winding of wire. COMPAGNIE FRACAISE THOMSONHOUSTON. Nov. 12, 1963 [Nov. 13, 1962], No. 44626/63. Heading D1J. A wire winding device for continuously winding wire on one or other of a pair of adjacent spools comprises adjacent coaxial spindles 2, 2' 2' on which spools 5, 5' are mounted, each spindle being driven by a separate electric motor 3, 3' and includes a smooth curved member 7 which shrouds the adjacent flanges 6, 6' of the spools to facilitate transfer of the wire from one spool to the other. Traversing means for the wire includes a guide pulley T the path of traverse of which is determined by the action of fixed stop members C 1 C 2 and retractable stop members E 1 E 2 on a reversing switch I 2 associated with the traversing pulley T. As shown, for the left hand spool, stop members C 1 E 1 act on the reversing switch I 2 and cause the guide pulley to traverse over the length of that spool. When the spool is filled manual operation of a control switch (not shown) starts the motor 3' of the right hand spool 5', causes the retractable stop members to move to the position shown dotted and the guide pulley consequently moves into the region of the right hand spool 5', causing the wire to transfer over the member 7 to the spool 5'. After a few turns have been wound on that spool the control switch is manually turned to a further position which brings the retractable stop members E 1 E 2 into their operative position again and also causes a reversal of direction of traverse of the guide pulley T. This has the effect of winding a few superposed locking turns of wire on the turns initially laid on the spool 5'; furthermore when the stop member E 2 is reached for the first time a switch I 1 also associated with the traversing means is operated by the member E 2 to stop the motor 3 which causes the intervening wire between the spool to break. Alternatively a saw member may be brought into position to sever the wire which joins the two spools. Each unit comprising a spool, the spindle upon which it is mounted and the respective motor is pivotable about a horizontal axis A B or A' B' for doffing and replacement of the filled spool.
