Abstract

1,055,418. Microphones. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Nov. 5, 1965 [No. 12, 1964], No. 46122/64. Heading H4J. [Also in Division H1] A pressure transducer comprises a semiconductor body containing at least one PN junction doped with a minority carrier lifetime reducing impurity and a stylus bearing on the body adjacent the junction. The body, which may be of silicon or germanium, may constitute a diode or a junction transistor. Suitable lifetime reducing impurities are copper, silver, gold and nickel. The pressure sensitivity of the device which may form part of a microphone or a static pressure transducer increases with increasing concentration of these impurities and with increasing conductivity of the zones up to the point at which the semi-conductor properties of the material are lost.
