Abstract

1,052,634. Laminates and laminating. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 31, 1963 [June 1, 1962], No. 21194/62. Heading B5N. A permeable laminate is made by passing a substrate 1, coated with a plastic composition containing a blowing agent, through a heater 1, 2 to activate the blowing agent and attaching a multiplicity of textile yarns to the coated substrate whilst it is hot by means of rollers 5, 6. Roller 5 may have a corrugated surface. Suitable plastic compositions are polyvinyl or polyvinylidene chloride and may contain plasticizers, pigments and may be compounded with nitrile rubber, polyethylene or butadiene styrene resins, and suitable substrates are knitted, woven or felted fabrics. The textile yarns may be of wool, cotton, regenerated cellulose, gimp, polyester or other textile fibres and may be in the form of a fabric or single threads arranged parallel or in a pattern. The laminate may be used for upholstery.
