Abstract
1,052,230. Making piezo-electric transducers; welding by pressure. KISTLER INSTRUMENTE A.G. April 3, 1964 [April 5, 1963], No. 13836/64. Headings B3A and B3R. In a piezo-electric transducer in which a crystal arrangement 13 is supported on a pressure transmitting member 14 in a easing 1, the member 14 is pressure welded to a diaphragm 27 by an electrode 34 passed through a central cavity in the casing 1 and the crystal arrangement 13 and an electrode 35 engaging the diaphragm. An annular ridge 36 on the member 14 ensures that a continuous projection weld is effected. The member 14 is the base of a tubular spring 13 having a ring 15 at one end, the ring 15 being welded to the casing 1 and the spring 13 being simultaneously stretched to pre-stress the crystal arrangement 13 as described in Specification 1,052,229. The edge of the diaphragm 27 is projection welded to the casing by electrodes 38, 39, respectively engaging the diaphragm 27 and a shoulder 31 on the casing 1 which shoulder is subsequently machined away as indicated at 32. A spring- like terminal 18 is supported in a mounting comprising a ceramic sleeve 20 hard soldered to rings 21, 22. The upper ring 21 is projection welded to the casing 1 in vacuum or in a rare gas atmosphere. In a modification the easing is in two parts between which is clamped the ring 15 in such manner as to stretch the spring to prestress the crystal arrangement.
