864,025. Electric indicating systems. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIVUND MASCHINENFABRIK. June 13, 1957 [June 14, 1956], No. 18657/57. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XL (b)] A piezo-electric pressure transducer is provided with a sealing- chamber surrounding the contact device which is connected to the piezo crystal. As shown, the piezo-electric device comprises two semi - cylindrical quartz members 1, 2 enclosed in a steel sleeve 3 which is formed at one end into a sealing diaphragm 6 which prevents the pressure being measured from entering the space between the housing 5 and diaphragm. The quartz members are placed under initial stress by a steel cylinder 4 pressed into the sleeve. Contact is made with the separating plane of the semicylindrical bars by a thin copper sheet 8 which is connected by a conductor 9 passing through a quartz tube 10 to tubular metal contact-piece 11 in which the conductor is clamped by pin 24. A further contact-member 29 conveys the charge to the exterior of the housing. Surrounding contactmember 11 and sealed in a recess in the housing 5 is a sealing chamber comprising bushes 12, 13 within which are resilient highly-insulating sealing-rings 16, 17. The bushing and sealing- rings are of truncated conical form, as shown. A spring 22 surrounding the contact-member 11 causes a slidable sleeve 19 to compress sealing- ring 17 against the bush 27. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) member 11 is cut short and member 19 extends beyond the bushes to provide an end contact.
