Abstract

1,050,907. Two-part couplings. HARVEY HUBBELL Inc. March 17, 1965 [Nov. 17, 1964], No. 11345/65. Heading H2E. A cylindrical socket connector comprises an insulating body 10 surrounding a chamber 16 which is closed by a sliding plunger 24, through the centre of which projects a keying pin 32. When a plug member C, having a central post 44 extending outwardly of the body 40, is moved towards the socket, the plunger 24 is depressed against the action of spring 24, the keying member 32 entering a similarly shaped passage 50 in the post 44, and on rotation of the plug member the rigid contacts 46 on the circumference of the post 44 are turned into engagement with socket contacts 14 which lie on the walls of the chamber and the plug and socket are locked in engagement. Keying pin 32 has a selectively predetermined cross-section (e.g. triangular) so that incorrectly rated components cannot be connected.
