Abstract
1,047,404. Projectile fuzes. POURDRERIES REUNIES DE BELGIQUE SOC. ANON. April 9, 1964 [April 10, 1963], No. 14739/64. Heading F3A. A safety device for a projectile comprises a contact slidable against a spring and held in position by locking balls which are released on acceleration so that the contact slides to complete a circuit between an electric generator and a detonator. A piezo-electric generator 1 (Fig. 2, not shown) with a shock-limiting device 5 and an earthing plate 9 is rested on a conducting anvil 2 and held in an insulated cup 3, the anvil having an extended part 4 capable of making contact with a slidable member 22 which is connected by leads 25 to a primer (not shown) and which is engaged, in a tubular member 13 with a frontal part 12 and lateral holes 14 in which locking balls 15 are maintained by a tubular slide 16, itself held in position by shaped elastic tabs 17 which form part of a sleeve 18. The balls 15 butt against the conical end of the slidable member 22 which is held against the balls by a compressed spring 23. The acceleration on launching causes slide 16 to set back overriding the resistance of the tabs 17 which then engage a groove 21, the locking balls being freed (Fig. 6, not shown). When the acceleration has fallen sufficiently the spring 23 pushes the member 22 forwards until it contacts the extended part 4 of the anvil 2 to complete the electric circuit between the generator 1 and the fuze. On impact contact between the anvil extension 4 and the member 22 is strengthened and the impulse from a hammer 30 is transmitted to the piezo-electric generator 1 which then provides the necessary electric potential.
