Abstract
1,045,867. Wire strainers. I. J. THOMAS. June 25, 1965 [July 6, 1964], No. 27719/64. Heading F2G. A wire strainer comprises a handle A, formed with a jaw face F at one end, and a jaw piece. G which is pivotally secured at B and has an offset portion C alignable with the said jaw face and constituting a second jaw face H. As illustrated in Fig. 2 (not shown), the jaw faces, which may be serrated, extend obliquely to the handle and jaw piece. Alternatively said faces may be curved: In operation, wire is placed between the substantially aligned jaws and initially manually strained. The 'free end of the jawpiece is then caused to bear or fulcrum against a fence post or the like and the handle moved in the direction of tensioning -the wire. Initial movement causes the handle to articu late about B until the opposing jaws grip the wire. Subsequent movement causes the strainer to move as a solid lever fulcrumed about the fence post thereby tensioning the wire.
