Abstract
1,045,820. Spray carburetters. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DE BREVETS ET D'ETUDES. Dec. 21, 1964 [Jan. 3, 1964], No. 51915/64. Heading F1B. In a carburetter having a main throttle valve 5, Fig. 3, a suction actuated auxiliary throttle valve 2 connected to a fuel metering needle valve, and a fuel nozzle 28 opening to a space subject to the suction intermediate the valves 2, 5, a supplementary fuel passage 54, 56, for cold starting is controlled by a disc-valve 27 and means is provided for reducing the flow section of the starting passage 54, 56, when the valve 2 opens a small amount. In Fig. 3 the passage 54, 56, leading to a starting fuel nozzle adjacent the main nozzle 28, includes a valve 59 which is held open by a lever 63 when the valve 2 is closed. When valve 2 opens a small amount, lever 63 moves away from the spindle 60 of valve 59 which then seats on a seat 58 to close a major part of the flow passage of passage 54, 56, leaving only a small by-pass passage 62 open so that the flow of aerated fuel to the starting nozzle is reduced. The rotatable disc 27, which is manually controlled, has an arcuate port which connects a delivery passage 34, Fig. 4 (not shown), from a starting fuel well 29 to the passage 54 through orifices 53. Disc 27 also includes a port 91 which, during cold starting, connects ports 88, 89, to admit atmospheric pressure to a pipe 93 to render inoperative a device 80 for reducing the mixture richness at reduced loads. The device 80 subjects the float chamber to the suction between valves 2, 5, at reduced loads to lean out the mixture. A cam 65 on disc 27 controls a lever 66 to control the fast-idling position of the valve 5 at cold starting. In a modification (Fig. 7, not shown) the disc 27 is controlled by a bimetallic strip and in Fig. 9 (not shown) the disc 27 is controlled by a thermostat 49 which adjusts a rack 46 engaging a pinion 45 on the disc spindle 38. The thermostat 49 may be heated after starting electrically or by engine cooling water, lubricating oil or exhaust gases.
