Abstract
A polyolefine composition having resistance to attack by termites, consists of a polyolefine chosen from the group consisting of polyethylene and polypropylene in admixture with two additive materials (a) and (b) distributed substantially homogeneously throughout the composition where (a) comprises 0.05 to 3% by weight (calculated in the polyolefine) of a N-methyl carbonate insecticide chosen from the group represented by the formula Ar.O.CO.NHMe where Me represents a methyl radical and Ar is chosen from the group consisting of phenyl, naphthyl, dihydro-naphthyl and tetrahydro-naphthyl residues and may carry halogen, allyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy or dialkyl-amino substituents, and (b) comprises 0.05 to 5% by weight (calculated in the insecticide) of an acid compound (defined as a compound containing active hydrogen) which is substantially non-volatile and non-corrosive to manufacturing equipment when held at a temperature in the range 130 DEG to 200 DEG C. for a period of up to 15 minutes. Exemplified acid compounds are boric acid and mono-nonylphenyl polyethylene glycol ether phosphate.
