The comminuting device of the main patent is modified in that the circumferentially-extending screen slots 10 are defined by adjacent bars 8 of a plurality of coaxial screen bars and in that the screw means includes two helical blades 32, 33 arranged on opposite sides of the extension 26, 27 of a rotatable shaft 20 to extend substantially around half the circumference of the shaft extension in such manner that each shot 10 receives two cutters 36, Fig. 2 (not shown) mounted on each blade, each blade having a thickness substantially equal to the width of a slot 10 together with the two adjacent bars 8 defining the slot and being so dimensioned that upon rotation of the screw means the blades co-operate with the bars 8 also to comminute solid material held in the slots 10 and depending into the screen. Each slotted member 2, 3 comprises two strips 4, 5, Fig 2 (not shown) between which a slotted counter-cutter 40 is arranged. The bars 8 and end rings 6, 7 of the screen are recessed adjacent each member 2, 3 in such manner that at the location of the counter-cutters the height of the associated slot 10 is greater than in the remaining parts of the screen.
